My name is Jacquitta and I am the creator of This Curvi Yogi.
I started my Yoga Journey back in December of 2014 and it has changed my outlook on life completely. The most beneficial aspect of yoga is learning to love myself. Dealing with insecurities can be draining emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually; By practicing yoga, I have developed patience and focus which have helped me to appreciate the journey and not focus on the end results. I am a work in progress, but I appreciate every step in the process.
I am currently a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) as of May 2017 after completing my training with Samantha Harrison at Yogivibes Studio. My practice has evolved leading in a way that helps me understand that yoga is connecting the mind to the body through breath awareness and fluid movements. I teach Alignment-based Vinyasa, Restorative and Yin yoga with a focus on body and self awareness by creating an environment that encourages students to recognize that their practice is their own and may not look like everyone else’s. I also love to incorporate the practice of Self-Care in my classes helping students understand that they need and are deserving of Self Care every day.
This Curvi Yogi was created as a way to represent those who do not fit the typical physcial description of what a yogi or yoga practitioner looks like according to the media. As a Black, Curvy and Thick woman, I did not see many who were similar to me practicing and teaching yoga in the beginning of my journey. This Curvi Yogi is a way to build a community of yogis who look similar to one another and who can encourage one another to practice and try yoga. It also serves as an Affirmation in itself; so you can say:
This Curvi Yogi is BEAUTIFUL!
This Curvi Yogi is DETERMINED!
This Curvi Yogi is STRONG!
I pray that the content on this blog will bless you and help you progress in your own life.
